182 - Cretan dakos, cretan's traditional rusk

Cretan dakos is α traditional rusk on the island of Crete-Greece. Dakos (also called "koukouvayia") is often called "Greek bruschetta," and is easy to make a light meal with few ingredients and no cooking.

Cretan dakos can be used with any kind of food instead of bread, but its main and most famous use is to wet the rusk with water to moisten, grate a tomato with a vegetable grater into a strainer over a bowl so most of the liquid drains off and then spread the grated tomato on the rusk and top with feta cheese. Sprinkle with salt and a good amount of cretan oregano, and drizzle with extra virgin olive oil.
